“The Chrysalis” by Ines Arenas Jewelry Gallery

Butterflies are often considered the image of the soul while the Chrysalis from which they emerge is the metaphor of the changes a person undergoes throughout their life. However, many Chrysalis die before metamorphosis, perhaps without having a soul. Do the Chrysalis dream? Perhaps yes: dreams where new men emerge from their pupae with their animal soul awake, managing to recognize other animals as their peers.

It is said that God created man out of clay and breathed into him a divine spark. In turn, the first men created the “Golem” from this same matter, but they could not give it a soul. To encourage him, a paper with one of the names of God, or with the word “Emet” which means “truth” in Hebrew perhaps, should be put in his mouth. Perhaps if human beings have lost our soul, through the truth we could recover it.

For having dreamed the dream of the reason that Goya foreshadowed, my work consists of seeing new monsters, new creatures, new forms, new beings, that represent the necessary encounter between the human self and the animal self. Some have unsuspected shapes and at times seem like demons rather than natural beings. Others remind us of the animals we dreamed of in our childhood. Some remind us of undeniably human traits.

Ines Arenas Jewelry Gallery Says Thank You…

…for staying with us through the article: “The Chrysalis”.

For us, jewelry is an art form where others might think that jewelry becomes art through how it is presented.

But we believe that is the mixture between presentation and content that makes jewelry an art form. One doesn’t happen without the other.

Jewelry is a representation of our history and beliefs in symbols that have changed with the time to express our personal beliefs regarding politics, sexuality, religion, family, and even social status, since the Roman Empire in western civilization.

Jewelry, thanks to the internet, is going to become a language, a vocabulary, a way to talk, understood around the world because any art is about connection including Jewelry.

This is Why We Present Jewelry As We Do It!

But You, “The viewer is the last stroke in any jewelry piece”.
